The Mission of EndAmazon.com is to make the public and governments at every level painfully aware of the blatant monopoly Amazon has become. The US Government and governments worldwide must begin to act now before Amazon’s influence has become unstoppable. In 1914, Congress established the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), as well as passed the Clayton Antitrust Act (which augmented the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890). These laws are enforced by both the FTC and the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FTC’s principal duty is the promotion of consumer protection and the elimination and prevention of anti-competitive and unfair business practices, such as coercive monopolies. In conjunction with the DOJ, it has acted against monopolies in steel, sugar and other commodities, more recently broken up AT&T, and has considered the legality of mergers and acquisitions across virtually every major industry in the United States. Now is the time for the government to act against Amazon. Amazon will claim it is not a monopoly due to the fact that its “sellers prosper.” Nothing can be further from the truth. In actuality, often, if not the majority of the time, sellers can pay fees which are greater than the profit they labored to earn.
